St. Rita's Sports Medicine Team of the Week is a program recognizing high school athletic teams that work together to achieve common goals and improve their school and community. The program is sponsored by St. Rita’s Medical Center Sports Medicine and West Central Ohio Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.* Members of the team selected will receive a certificate and a t-shirt to recognize their success.
12/18/2004 - Boys Varsity - Memorial Roughriders Boys Varsity Football Team School District: St. Marys Coached By: Doug Frye
The St. Marys Roughriders football team have had a successful season this year. They were proud to share the WBL title with Lima Shawnee this year and to make another trip to the playoffs. This team is built on tradition, but are making history of their own. For nearly every coach on the staff, this is their first trip to the state title game despite the 3 championships that they won in the early 90's. This speaks volumes for their young and talented coaching staff. St. Marys has been the underdog in nearly every playoff game this year, yet they have fought through the adversity to make it to the state title game. Their defense has been an iron curtain and their offense continues to get stronger throughout the course of each game. Finally, the team and the town have represented West Central Ohio well. In their playoff march, they have faced teams from Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus and now Cleveland. We are proud of the unique qualities of this team and the heart that they have. Please consider them as your team of the week.
