At St. Rita's
Medical Center, the Audiology department offers several outpatient services
to help manage and determine the health of your ears and hearing. In particular,
tympanometry offers an objective means of determining how well the ear drum
is moving.
When
you are receiving a typanometry test, you should arrive to the Medical Center
approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment and check in
with Outpatient Registration. This area is located on the first floor of
the Medical Center behind the Information Desk in the main lobby. The
test will take approximately 15 minutes.
During the test, a small probe will be placed into the ear. Pressure within
the ear will be changed and the response of the ear drum to these changes
will be recorded.
Once the test is complete, a comprehensive report with the audiologists'
impressions and recommendations will be sent to your referring physician.
A physician's order is required. Orders can be faxed to Cardiopulminary
Services at (419) 226-9535 or sent to the test with you.
