Cornerstone Alliance, Inc., a physician-hospital organization (PHO), based in Lima, OH, was founded in l996. The organization was developed by the West Central Ohio Primary Care Physicians and St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, OH to ease the transition for area physician and hospital providers into a healthcare landscape dominated by managed care entities. The primary service area for the Cornerstone Provider Network consists of Allen, Auglaize, Hardin and Putnam Counties in West Central Ohio. There are presently nearly 400 contracted Member and Participating Physicians and Ancillary Providers in the Cornerstone Network in addition to St. Rita’s Medical Center and the Institute for Orthopedic Surgery, both based in Lima, OH.
The Mission for Cornerstone Alliance is to ensure that current and future residents in the Lima service area are able to receive health care locally, with good access, competence, and affordability. This mission is fulfilled by:
- Cornerstone, being a Messenger Model PHO, contracts with Member Participating Physicians and then negotiates the non-economic terms of Payer Agreements with insurers and provider networks seeking to provide services within the primary service area. There are presently 29 payer agreements in which contracted providers participate by delivering health services.
- Cornerstone Alliance contracts with the payer entities to perform credentialing of Network providers on behalf of the contracting payers.
- Cornerstone works cooperatively with several payer organizations to host a number of educational programs for provider offices upon an annual basis.
- Cornerstone also provides or arranges other services for contracted physician offices which are intended to reduce practices operating costs or to generate incremental revenues.
Cornerstone is an Ohio nonprofit corporation, governed by a 12-member Board of Trustees. The Corporation’s Code of Regulations provide for two categories of Voting Members - Institutional Members and Provider Members - and also one class of Non-Voting Members. Membership dues established by the Board of Trustees are assessed annually to support the operation of the Network.
