DEXA (Dual Energy
X-Ray Absorptiometry) Scan When testing for osteoporosis, there are two
types of painless tests. One of these tests is the Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry
Scan, or DEXA Scan. This test measures the bone density in the hip and spine.
It is the most accurate method to measure bone density and may also be used
to precisely monitor changes as a result of treatment for osteoporosis or
advancing disease.
This test takes about 15 minutes to complete and is available with a physician’s
order at the Women’s Wellness Center at St. Rita’s.
Osteoporosis screenings are available at the following locations during
the hours listed:
