Today, more
than ever before, parents-to-be are taking time to learn about many facets
of childbirth and parenting. The BirthPlace at St. Rita’s offers a
variety of programs to meet your needs. All childbirth classes are scheduled
through St. Rita’s Call A Nurse at (419) 226-9000 or (800) 437-4827.
These
classes are designed to help parents-to-be plan with the labor and delivery
experience by providing them with the information and knowledge necessary
for a successful birth. The classes are taught by St. Rita’s experienced
nurses who specialize in childbirth education. Breathing, relaxation and
comfort measure, medical interventions and infant care are some of the topics
covered. Evening and Saturday dates are available in addition to classes
offered at the Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center. You should begin childbirth
education classes eight to ten weeks before your baby is due. A tour of
The BirthPlace is included.
Designed for parents with previous childbirth experience including those
with prior cesarean deliveries desiring vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).
This one-time class reviews pregnancy, labor and delivery, breathing, relaxation
and comfort techniques. Classes should be taken five to six weeks before
your baby is due. A tour of The BirthPlace is included.
This class is designed to meet the educational and social needs of young
mothers age 19 and younger preparing to have a baby. General labor and delivery
education is addressed as well as the special concerns unique to teens.
A tour of The BirthPlace at St. Rita’s is also included. Classes should
be taken eight to ten weeks before your baby is due.
Siblings ages three to nine will enjoy this fun, interactive class to help
them get ready for their new brother or sister. Siblings learn what to expect
from a new baby, safety procedures and how to handle a newborn. This Saturday
afternoon class, offered monthly, offers snacks and crafts as well. A tour
of The BirthPlace is also included so siblings know where Mom will be when
the baby is born.

This
Dads-only workshop covers general care and handling of an infant,
what to expect from fatherhood and the emotional and physical needs
of a new mother. During class, other veteran dads share their experiences
of becoming a new father. |
This class reviews the basic skills and knowledge necessary to care for
your healthy newborn.
This class is designed to help mothers-to-be learn the basics of breastfeeding
while preparing them physically and emotionally for the benefits of breastfeeding.
This two-hour class is taught by our certified lactation consultants. Evening
and weekend classes are available.
For individual educational needs our OB Care Managers are available by appointment. |
