During one of the sessions, a patient returned to St. Rita's after group therapy had ended for the day. Jill saw the woman in the hall and excused herself. She spent some time with the woman allowing her to express her feelings. Jill understood that because of the woman's illness, the patient was having a severe emotional reaction to some stress in her life. She listened and then hugged the woman, treating her not as a person with mental illness, but as another human having a difficult time. Her Compassion and respect for the individual's Human Dignity were obvious. She also made certain the patient did not plan to harm herself before she left, attesting to her belief in Sacredness of Life. Jill made no explanation or excuse, she simply responded to a person in need…something she does everyday both personally and professionally. Her actions not only helped the patient, but also the social worker who again witnessed our Core Values in action. Jill's selfless commitment to helping others whether it is another professional or a patient, is truly an inspiration. We are proud to name Jill Miller, a Legend of St. Rita's. |
