Audiological Evaluation

An audiological evaluation is used to evaluate the hearing system of patients ages birth through older adult from the outer ear to the inner ear.

What You Should Know
If you are scheduled to receive an audiological evaluation, you should arrive approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled test and check in with Outpatient Registration. This area is located on the first floor of the Medical Center behind the Information Desk in the main lobby. The test will take approximately one hour.

During the test, a licensed audiologist will complete a series of tests that make up the audiological evaluation. The audiologist will take a thorough history of the patient and will examine the ears and ear canals. The patient's responses to different pitch tones given under headphones or through speakers are recorded. In addition, the patient's ability to understand speech is tested to determine what impact any hearing loss may have on the patient's communication abilities.

After the test, a comprehensive report with the audiologists' impressions and recommendations will be sent to the referring physician.

A physician's order is required. Orders can be faxed to Cardiopulminary Services at (419) 226-9535 or sent to the test with you.
