Pain is considered to be the fifth vital sign. At St. Rita’s Medical Center we take controlling and managing your pain very seriously. The physicians and nurses caring for you should regularly ask you what your pain level is and take steps to alleviate or ease your pain. Below you will find your rights and responsibilities for pain management.

Every patient:
  • Needs to be Involved in Their Own Pain Management
  • Needs to be Instructed on What to Expect with Pain Control
  • Can Express Discomfort/Pain and Receive Adequate Pain Control Unique to their Individual Needs or Situation
  • Has the Right to Know the Side Effects that may Occur and Its Interactions with Other Medications
  • Has the Right to Talk with a Healthcare Professional Over Concerns and Methods of Pain Management
  • Needs to Understand When to Receive Pain Medication and/or Alternative Methods of Relief
  • Is Encouraged to Inform Healthcare Professionals about Inadequate Pain Control
