has been described as a role model, father figure, and even a candidate
for "cloning" as a perfect staff member.
His Excellence is apparent. A gentle and considerate
man, he his often praised for his patience in training students and new
employees and his willingness to do whatever needs to be done …from vacuuming
the waiting room to finding films to stepping in on a particularly difficult
case.
His Compassion is one of the Core Values for which
he is best known especially in dealing with patients. One example concerned
a patient who was being prepared for a lumbar puncture. As the patient was
getting into the position, all bodily function control was lost. Dick immediately
took control of the situation, restoring the patient with special attention
to Human Dignity. The patient was made to feel
completely comfortable, as if the embarrassing event never took place.
Our Core Value of Justice is at work each time
he re-arranges or personally works for another employee who has a special
occasion or personal need.
Dick also personally sees that no students or employees go unescorted to
their cars at the end of their shifts… and personally makes fresh coffee
for his second shift staff every day!
