Outpatient Oncology Services, located next to St. Rita's Inpatient Oncology
Unit on the 6 th Floor (B6), is a special oncology unit with five private suites.
St. Rita's Outpatient Oncology Services include:
- Chemotherapy Infusion
- IV (Intravenous) Hydration
- Transfusions of Many Types of Blood Products
- Oncology Procedures (Such as Bone Marrows)
Many of the nurses are cross-trained to work in both the outpatient and inpatient
units, with 89% of the nurses being certified in oncology nursing (Oncology
Certified Nurses-OCN). Certified oncology nurses assure patients they are receiving
care from the most qualified nurses in the field. St. Rita's Outpatient Oncology
Unit also has a dedicated oncology social worker, a care manager, a dietitian
and pastoral services to help patients and their families.
The unit's hours are what make St. Rita's Outpatient Oncology Services unique.
Instead of having specific closing hours, treatments are scheduled around the
patient's daily routine, allowing patients to maintain as normal a life as
possible while receiving treatments. Many of the patients choose to receive
treatments in the evening, after their work day.
Music therapy and massage therapy are additional services offered through
St. Rita's Outpatient Oncology Services, with future plans to add a program
addressing cancer and fatigue management. St. Rita's offers numerous support
services and support groups to assist patients and their families in the fight
against cancer diseases.
