On March 8, Fourth District Congressman Michael Oxley toured The Gerad Center for Cancer Treatment and St. Rita’s Allison Radiation Oncology Center located in St. Rita’s Regional Cancer Center, 803 W. Market Street. The purpose of Congressman Oxley’s visit was to see first-hand the high quality, comprehensive cancer care available in his district. During the visit, the Congressman met with local medical oncologist, Dr. Henry Gerad and Dr. Rena Zimmerman. They discussed how recent legislation will impact cancer treatment in our region.
Congressman Oxley learned how it is more common for patients to receive both radiation and chemotherapy treatments in the same day. He also saw how having both forms of therapy available in one facility benefits not only patients, but allows the physicians to work together more closely in designing a coordinated treatment plan for each individual.
Patients receive their radiation therapy on the first floor of the Center, while the second floor is dedicated to medical oncology. The Center was created around the philosophy that comfort and beauty are necessary elements of healing. Equally important is the cutting edge technology, experienced staff and highly certified physicians at the Center.
