If report cards were issued for health care services, St. Rita’s radiation oncology program would undoubtedly receive an A+. The American College of Radiology (ACR) has just awarded St. Rita’s Medical Center high marks with a three-year accreditation for its radiation oncology service. St. Rita’s is one of just six hospitals in Ohio and 134 in the country that has obtained the accreditation. The national certification means St. Rita’s Allison Radiation Oncology Center has undergone a rigorous review process and meets or exceeds nationally accepted standards of care.
“When a patient chooses St. Rita’s for their cancer treatment they should know they have chosen a facility that has demonstrated a commitment to quality care and patient safety through the use of highly qualified staff, advanced technology and compliance to quality assurance and safety guidelines,” says Joan Niese, Director, St. Rita’s Regional Cancer Center.
The three-year accreditation applies to the Medical Center’s capabilities in the areas of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, breast ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsies, CT imaging, mammography and radiation oncology treatment.
This certification comes on the heels of another nationally recognized accreditation. The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons recently designated St. Rita’s as having a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program. Only one in four hospitals that treat cancer receives the significant designation.
This national acknowledgement means St. Rita’s offers the best in cancer care. It ensures patients are receiving high quality care close to home, cutting edge technology, access to a highly skilled team of cancer professionals and up to date information to help patients make informed decisions about their treatment.
Approval by the Commission on Cancer is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to provide the best in diagnosis and treatment of cancer and to undergo a thorough evaluation process and review of it performance. In order to maintain approval, facilities with approved cancer programs must undergo an on-site review every three years.
The Medical Center offers comprehensive inpatient oncology care as well as outpatient cancer treatment through St. Rita’s Regional Cancer Center.
