St. Rita's Regional Cancer Center is home to two of the country's most advanced cancer fighting tools. These high-powered linear accelerators produce X-ray beams that focus on treating the specific area where the cancer is. The beams administer radiation with such accuracy that there is little effect on the surrounding healthy tissue.
Patients receiving radiation therapy visit the center five days a week for up to eight weeks with daily treatments lasting approximately ten minutes. |
