Estate planning lets you shape your future. Understanding the "building blocks" of financial and estate planning can help ensure a secure future for you and your loved ones. The Planned Giving committee of St. Rita's Development Council is comprised of a group of community volunteers serving as ambassadors for St. Rita's. The committee's goal is to provide education and information in estate and financial planning and create community awareness of St. Rita's planned giving program.
The Planned Giving Committee sponsors estate and financial planning workshops and seminars for business professionals and individuals. "By helping others learn about the advantages of estate planning, we are also making them aware of St. Rita's Development Council and the important role it plays in the community and supporting the mission of St. Rita's," says Jaye McCain, co-chairman, St. Rita's Planned Giving Committee.
Although the word estate may seem overwhelming, it's best to think of estate planning as preparing for your survivors. How would you want your spouse to be cared for? Do you have a favorite charity or organization you would like to support? How can you protect your estate from costly estate taxes? These are all questions that can be answered through estate planning.
"As committee members, we want to make it easier for individuals to make a donation to St. Rita's through their will or estate," adds Jim Csibi, co-chairman, St. Rita's Planned Giving Committee. "We are here to help guide both business professionals and the community at large through the steps of remembering St. Rita's in your estate plan."
Charitable gifts can actually help you accomplish your personal planning objectives in a way that will benefit you, your loved ones and fulfill your charitable wishes. "Through proper planning now, individuals can retain a greater percentage of their estate value and be in control of their finances. Avoiding estate taxes allows individuals not only to provide for surviving friends or family, but to also have additional monies available with which they may consider donating to a local non-profit or their favorite charity," adds McCain.
The Planned Giving Committee established the Catherine McAuley Circle in 1979 to recognize individuals who have included St. Rita's in their will or have arranged another type of planned gift. "When someone leaves a gift in their estate to the Medical Center we know we have made an impact," says McCain. Over 60 planned gifts have been received by St. Rita's Medical Center and 30 individuals are current members of the Catherine McAuley Circle.
The Planned Giving Committee has also recently announced a new opportunity for individuals to make a charitable contribution that has benefits to both the donor and St. Rita's Medical Center . The charitable gift annuity program allows a donor to make a charitable gift to the Medical Center , while receiving fixed payments and a possible immediate tax deduction. While the donor receives a scheduled payment from their annuity, the Medical Center can use the gift to further support the mission of St. Rita's.
A charitable gift to St. Rita's Medical Center is an investment in the future. Through the generosity of many individuals and businesses, St. Rita's is able to provide our patients with state-of-the-art technology, high quality care, preventive health screenings and education.
